Treehouse stays within 2 hours of Birmingham

Glamping grandeur awaits at Orchard Treehouse in Worcestershire. It’s wrapped stylishly around a magnificent Cypriot pine tree in the grounds of a medieval Manor house. The luxury theme continues in the airy space inside with not one but two bathrooms (pretty slick for a treehouse). One tub is tucked under the eaves on a mezzanine deck where you can watch the sunset over the Malvern Hills through a little window, and on your way up the spiral staircase to reach it, you’ll find two cabin bed nooks that will delight den-loving kids. Outside on the deck, the private hot tub has uninterrupted views of a babbling stream and the Cotswolds beyond. You’re on the edge of the lovely village of Little Comberton with a network of footpaths, a 17-mile cycle route and country pubs close by.

The Rook’s View treehouse in Herefordshire has one of the most atmospheric outdoor bathtubs we’ve ever seen – perched on a covered deck, lit up by lanterns and surrounded by trailing ivy. There are plenty of handy spots to rest your wine glass as you soak too. With a hot tub, outdoor pizza oven, chiminea and two BBQs, you’ll barely need to venture inside but when you do, you’ll find a spacious, light-filled sanctuary. Cuddle up on the big sofa and watch the sunset through the glass wall, play board games in front of the wood burner and embrace leisurely lie-ins in the king size bed. Spend your days exploring the woodland (bought by the owners at a pub auction) and spotting the resident birds and badgers, then head to Green Cow Kitchen or Pensons for a special meal out. Both are fine dining gems that attract foodies from miles around.

Deep in a Shropshire dingle but elevated high on stilts, The Owl House is a relaxing paradise nestled among ancient trees. The gentle breeze blowing through the leaves, the smell of the fresh woodland air and the glow of the firepit are the ultimate antidotes to hectic urban living. The only pace here is slow. Stylishly so, with a picture-perfect wooden bath at the foot of your bed, a bubbling tin tub outside and the reading nook of dreams with views over the valley. The stargazing here is so epic that the owners provide a book to help you identify the constellations above. The Shropshire Hills AONB is your back garden, bursting with fantastic walking trails and wild swimming spots, and historic Ludlow is close by for a day out exploring the shops, markets and eateries.

Unusually for a treehouse (although more are getting there), Sky Treehouse is accessible to most people with no steps on the boardwalk and lowered kitchen and bathroom units. It’s also a modern masterclass in style, comfort and design built to the highest environmental standards. Every space, inside and out, has staggering views over the wetlands and we’ve found that the scenery looks even better from the huge outdoor bath or super king-size bed. There’s a superb indoor and outdoor kitchen but if you’d rather sample some local gastronomic goodies, you can order breakfast hampers and meals from the Elmore Court Kitchen. You can even try foraging food with the estates’ local Forager or attend a practical session on growing your own food in the kitchen garden. If you’re after something a bit more active, water sports are available nearby at West Country Water Park and Cotswold Water Park. One thing’s for sure, you’ll sleep well each night.

You’ll barely see another soul at Two Pines treehouse, set on a ninety-acre rewilded ex-WW2 airfield in Northamptonshire. The planes overhead are a distant memory now nature has reclaimed the site, which bursts with species of plants, fungi, butterflies and birds of prey. To learn more, ask for a guided walk with owner Fin’s mum, a passionate amateur ecologist who knows the site like the back of her hand. If you’re wandering back from your adventures at dusk, Two Pines looks utterly magical lit up among the trees. Take a bottle of fizz out onto the deck for long, lazy evenings stargazing from the outdoor tub, surrounded by the sounds of wildlife. Apart from picking up ingredients to make fresh pizzas, there’s no need to leave the site, but if you fancy a trip out, the markets at Oundle are popular locally or you could ride the Nene Valley Steam Railway.

Whether you’re kissing under it, or in it, Mistletoe Treehouse is as romantic as its name suggests, perched practically on the banks of the gorgeous Wye. Spend idyllic days out in the fresh air canoeing on the river or hiking the woodland trails, then flutter back to your cosy nest to build a fire and stargaze. There are a multitude of activities locally to suit every taste whether you want high-speed zip wiring in Chepstow, a gentle ramble around Tintern Abbey or a few local ales at Kingstone Brewery. Back at The Dovecote, you can wander around owner Gemma’s beautiful sculpture garden and wonder if you ever have to return to reality.
